Jaguar XJ-S V12 Lynx Eventer 1984
Chassis No. SAJJNAEW3BC113109
The XJ-S, designed as a luxury grand tourer with a wide range, was by no means a small car, but its comfortable interior only offered room for two adults and a light travel bag. In the absence of a station wagon in the catalogue, Lynx, the designer and coachbuilder from Hastings, was responsible for taking full advantage of the car’s potential.
Well-known for its replica sports Jaguar Type C and Type D, Lynx had every reason to believe there was a market for such a car, thanks to the success of the ‘sports station wagon’ concept embodied by the Reliant Scimitar GTE and Lancia Beta HPE.
Each Eventer was built by hand, to order from its client; it was a necessarily expensive car, and so owning it was the privilege of a few wealthy customers. Even today, rare are the cars capable of reaching 250 km/h almost in silence while having the loading capacity of a family station wagon.
This example, number 20 out of about 67 Eventers produced, is equipped with a V12. It was first registered A6 BEB in the UK. Never damaged, it has been restored twice, in 1999 then in 2009/2010, when its paintwork changed from the original brown to black.
Every Eventer is different; the latter is provided with a copy of his complete factory file, including manufacturing details and correspondence exchanged with the customer, as well as copies of his shooting brake conversion invoices.
The car was converted to left-hand drive by CKL Developments of Battle, East Sussex, whose founder and technical director, Chris Keith-Lucas, had been co-founder and director of Lynx. It was also CKL who carried out extensive restorations on the rear suspension, the rear brakes, the fuel injectors and the exhaust system, the latter being completely replaced. CKL’s invoices, present on file, amount to £14,191, or approximately €16,740.
An examination report issued in December 2017 by a recognized French expert is included in the file. “Perfect combination of vigor and grandeur”, this car comes with various invoices relating to its 1990s restoration, original Jaguar manuals, old registration documents in the UK and Belgium, and an article dedicated to this model in the March 2016 issue of Autorétro magazine.
It also comes with recent maintenance invoices.
This shooting brake is ready to take you on board for long journeys or rallies at the wheel of which you will feel unique.
