The Ford Escort is a car from the American Ford group produced by Ford Europe.
It is originally a model designed for the European market. The Escort name is then applied to various models produced in North America and now in China.
In order to promote its new model, Ford entered the Escort in competition, notably entrusting it to Roger Clark, who won the race on the Circuit of Ireland in 1968. His successes in rallying continued and Ford won with the “mark one” ( Mk1) the European Rally Championship in 1968, 1969 and the 1970 Wembley-Mexico Marathon. The arrival of the “mark two” (Mk2) confirmed this sporting potential, World Rally Champion 1979 and enabled Bjorn Waldegard to win the first title of world rally driver champion, then in 1981 for Ari Vatanen to also win the World Drivers’ Championship.
