BMW Z4 35 IS 1000 Miglia

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of BMW’s historic victory in the Mille Miglia, the Munich-based manufacturer is presenting a strictly limited special edition of the BMW Z4 sDrive35is.

This roadster, with its matt paintwork and many details, is supposed to be reminiscent of the legendary 328 racing cars, but unfortunately it is only available in Italy.

For BMW’s racing department, victory at the Mille Miglia in 1940 was sensational: in addition to drivers Huschke von Hanstein and Walter Bäumer, who were the first to cross the finish line in their BMW 328 Mille Miglia Coupé, three other 328 racing cars finished third, fifth and sixth.

The team’s victory was to be the Munich team’s only major success at the Mille Miglia. That year, however, the Cané/Galliani team took first place in the historic Mille Miglia in the winning 1940 BMW car.

On the 70th anniversary of this historic victory, it was of course a wonderful success for the BMW Classic department, which transported its historic racing cars on axles across the Alps to Brescia.

As a tribute to its own racing history in Italy, BMW has also released a special limited edition of 99 examples of its current top-of-the-range roadster model: the BMW Z4 sDrive35is Mille Miglia Limited Edition has been painted in Polaris matt metal, in reference to the 328 racing cars, and fitted with a blackened grille.

The BMW M aero kit and 19-inch wheels in dark chrome are also included in the package. The Alcantara seats have been given red stitching and seams, in keeping with the identifying colour of the Mille Miglia. In addition, several ‘1000 Miglia’ badges with the characteristic red arrow indicate that the BMW Z4 is a limited edition.

Adequate propulsion is provided by the famous 340 bhp 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine, which transmits its power to the road via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The bad news is that BMW intends to sell the ‘Mille Miglia’ edition exclusively in Italy.

The model on offer is in perfect condition, and our in-depth inspection revealed no defects either aesthetically or technically.
