There were three reasons to buy an XK120 fixed-head coupe in 1951: styling, performance and price.
The styling should be rather self-evident, and the performance–at least the engine performance, which we’ll get to later–was legendary. The price? When it first hit the streets, the XK120 coupe rang in less than one third the price of a Ferrari.
Almost 70 years later, the styling and the performance are still top reasons to buy, and a Jaguar XK120 coupe can still be had for about a third the price of a Ferrari.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
The XK120 is one of the icons of the post-war British sports car world. But while all of the accolades are heaped upon the open two-seater (OTS) and drop-head coupe (DHC), the fixed-head coupe (FHC).
And that’s a shame, because it sports one of the most distinctive, stunningly proportioned profiles in automotive history.
The XK120 famously launched at the Earls Court Motor Show in 1948 to world-wide acclaim. There are volumes dedicated to its history, and we won’t waste a whole lot of time rehashing it here.
Suffice to say that the XK120 burnished Jaguar as a brand, and would do its part to lift Great Britain out of its days of austerity.
At the time of its launch, there were only a handful of cars that truly competed with the XK120. As mentioned, any competitive Ferrari would have been unattainable for most of the people who purchased XK120 new.
Nevertheless, Jaguar managed to sell 12,045 XK120s over the car’s six-year run, 2,672 of which were coupes (more than 90 percent of which were left-hand drive.) The coupe, then, is significantly rarer than the OTS or the DHC.
This XK 120 FHC was totally restored to a very high level of quality a few years ago, it was upgraded with a 5-speed gear box, power steering, electronic ignition, unleaded fuel adapted cylinders head, electric fan with a kenlowe, big front disc brakes and bucket seats.
This jaguar is adapted to any kind of trip you want to do. Either a short Sunday ride under the sun on country roads or a rally, touristic or competition.
This model is eligible to any high-end rallies.
Ready to drive, it will bring to places you don’t event expect.
