Born from the elegant Sunbeam Alpine of the Rootes Group, the Sunbeam Tiger represents a bold transformation. This two-seater convertible, launched in 1959, already boasted quintessential British charm in its design. Yet, it was an ingenious American touch that propelled it into legend.

Under the initiative of Rootes American Motors Ltd, the legendary Carroll Shelby—creator of the iconic AC Cobra—was invited to transform the Alpine into a true sports car. The result? A 4.3-litre Ford V8 tucked under the bonnet, delivering 164 horsepower. The Tiger was born, a perfect fusion of British elegance and the raw power of an American muscle car.

Two Iconic Versions

• Series I (1964–1967): Powered by the renowned Ford 260 ci engine.
• Series II: Rare and exclusive, with only 633 units produced, featuring the more powerful Ford 289 ci engine.

Whether on the track or the open road, the Tiger left its mark on its era. It competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1964, triumphed in European rallies, and held a national record on American drag strips for two years.
