Jaguar won the 1951 and 1953 Le Mans 24 Hours with a car that would go down in history: the C-Type. The project began in 1950, when the English firm had some success with its XK120 on the Sarthe track. The roadster’s promising results prompted Jaguar to go the extra mile to develop the car that would take them to the top of the podium. On the program: a lightweight tubular chassis, an aerodynamic aluminum body designed by Malcolm Sayer, and an XK120 engine with reworked valves and fed by two S.U. H8 carburetors. The result: chassis XKC003 won the 1951 race. Two years later, Jaguar took first place with an even lighter body, three Weber 40 carburetors, and above all… above all… its famous disc brake system, revolutionary at the time.
The C-Type’s record of achievements also grew, with victory in the Tourist Trophy in 1951 and the 12 Hours of Reims and Hyères in 1953, as well as a fine time at Mount Washington in 1953 and 1954. Today, the C-Type is a racing myth, and we’re still lucky enough to see it race at the 24 Hours of Le Mans Classic and the Goodwood Revival
The car we present is a replica of the Proteus brand, renowned for the quality of its workmanship. The car features an aluminum chassis and body, as well as the XK120’s famous 3.4-liter engine, mated to a Tremec 5-speed gearbox. The British Racing Green paintwork is new, as are the leather seats. Here’s the list of items that come with the car:
– Water pump
– Intake manifold for 2 carburetors and another for 3 carburetors
– Aluminum fuel tank
– An alternator
– Set of original XK120 on-board instruments
– Set of 4 chromed 15“ wheels and set of 4 painted 16” wheels
– Two Brooklands windscreens
– One stainless steel side pipe exhaust
– Two rear lights
– Jaguar MK2 rear axle
This wonderfull Jaguar C-Type Proteus is thus offered in two possible formulas: as a project that the new owner can pursue himself, or as a fully finished car. Either way, a new C-Type is not to be missed!
